BBC’S I Want My Own Room

Back in 2011 Matt was approached by a local well established building firm to help convert a garage into a music studio for the BBC show I Want My Own Room. This was a challenging proposition as the job had a deadline and a garage had to be fully converted within 48 hours.

Not only was there a short time to complete the job with only 6 people, there were many inevitable pauses required while working on a TV set. In the 48 hours the room had to be cleared, new floor fitted, rendered, insulated, new windows fitted and finally decorated. The project was well organised with different tradesmen working alongside each other to complete the job. Matt and Brian put a total of 60 hours in between them to help complete the job, on time and to an high standard.

We have completed many house extension into kitchens, bedrooms, offices, and kid’s playroom, “granny flats” with en suits… the list is endless. We can show you our portfolio and discuss your needs. We will work with you to get what you want.
It all depends on your requirements, for example a small extension will cost less than a big extension. Cost will increase with extras such as an en-suite bathroom or if you wish to have a kitchen designed and fitted.
According to property experts, a house extension does not only provide extra living space but can add up to 10% to the value of your home.
A single integral house extension takes on average 14 working days. A double house extension will take on average 28 working days. These may change due to your requirements.
In the majority of cases, the work involved in a house extension will be classed as permitted development. However, if you live in a Conservation Area, a location where development can be restricted to protect the appearance of the surroundings, or on a new estate with strict guidelines, it’s worth checking what’s allowed- we will take care of this for you.
You’ll need building regulations consent and sign off for the various elements of your build, as with other home alterations. We will check that your local council is happy with your plans before starting work and organise appointments for each stage of the job. Alternatively we will use the private building control firm we use called Compagna.
We take a deposit in the region of 15% to 20% of the overall job value. We will then advise you of a payment schedule where you pay a certain percent at different stages through the job. We will provide the breakdown before the contracts are signed. We take the final payment once you are 100% satisfied with our work.

Once you have agreed to a start date we will send over a copy of the terms and conditions and a contract. Both parties will sign and both have a copy.
We provide a 10 year guarantee on all our work. A certificate will be provided on completion of the job, along with any other certificates such as electrical certificate or gas certificate.

Yes, if it is still in production (or remaining stock can be sourced from somewhere). If not we will get you the very best alternative match. We use a professional brick matcher, who will come to site prior to us starting the job. They will provide a few brick samples for you to choose from.
We put down a visqueen sheet and cover the drive with plywood to protect the drive from skips and general building work. We protect the internal by using dust sheets. We guarantee to keeping the mess on site to a minimum and leave the in the condition it was when we first arrived. We understand this is your home so will cause as little disruption as possible.
